Milton A. Candler

Milton Anthony Candler (January 11, 1837 – August 8, 1909) was an American politician and lawyer.
Candler was born in Campbellton, Georgia. He graduated from the University of Georgia (UGA) in Athens in 1854. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1856 and began practice in Cassville, Georgia. The following year he moved to Decatur, Georgia.
After serving in the Georgia State House of Representatives from 1861 through 1863, Candler was a delegate to the state constitutional convention in 1865 and the Democratic National Convention in 1872 and 1876. His next elected political office was in the Georgia Senate from 1868 until 1872. In 1876, Candler was elected to the United States House of Representatives and was re-elected in 1878. After withdrawing his nomination in 1878, Candler returned to his law practice in Decatur and died in that city in 1909 and was buried in Decatur Cemetery.
